What are the Benefits of Bergamot?

December 18, 2019 2 min read

Before we begin to discuss the bergamot, it is first important to understand what this substance is. It is a type of fruit in the lemon and lime family, which grows only in a certain region along the coast of Italy. Bergamot oil is pressed from the peel of the fruit and is known for its unique aroma. This smell is used in flavorings, perfumes, and other scents, as well. This essential oil is used in the burgeoning field of aromatherapy to reduce the signs and symptoms of anxiety. But there are other uses as well, which we discuss in the following article.

Why Does this Fruit Work?

This fruit is high in polyphenols, which are highly potent antioxidants. It is this effect which is believed to help lower blood glucose or sugar, promotes the formation of good cholesterol, decreases bad cholesterol, and helps to cut down on the fatty deposits in the liver.

Bergamot is extracted, then concentrated and standardized into tablets to make it easier to take and provides more benefits more conveniently than if you were to try to consume the fruit and oil, which

How Is Bergamot Better than Statin Drugs?

The first topic we are going to discuss is the fact that this antioxidant helps to lower low-density lipoproteins (LDL) in the body. It is a natural product and has relatively no side effects that not only lowers bad cholesterol but also raises the good cholesterol.

Is There Research to Support This?

Italian researchers took two groups of volunteers with elevated levels of cholesterol. The first group was given 500 mg of Bergamot while the other was given 1000mg for a month. After the 30 days, LDL decreased in both groups by 25 to 36 percent, HDL was increased by 22 to 40 percent, and triglycerides declined by 30 to 39 percent.

Statin drugs work by blocking enzymes responsible for another antioxidant called coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). This enzyme helps the cells in your body produce energy, but statins drain the body of CoQ10 and other antioxidants. These drugs now carry special warnings against health problems developing, such as memory loss, liver problems, and other conditions.

Bergamot is a natural citrus fruit that contains many beneficial benefits over statin drugs when used to lower Cholesterol. It is filled with antioxidants which also help with wound healing, energy production, cell regeneration, and other normal body functions
